We continued working on Combining Like Terms-Marked HW , done classwork and students are to complete worksheet provided- following the procedural steps(See modeled examples done in class MSG 14 b and 14 a. Assigned IXL skills need to be worked on- these are prerequisites to understanding and building stock knowledge on this UNIT. We will continue to work on combining like terms with more scaffolding and simplifying of expressions using the strategies-(highlighting, underlining, using shapes) to identify like terms before combing these(same variables and same exponents, and numbers.(HW- students will complete page 13a and they have a WS on translating words to math. Katz - Today we went over the quizzes from yesterday and Recovery Work was given to those students who scored below 70. Recovery work is due on Friday to receive additional credit on your quiz. We then started evaluating expressions for given values of variables. HW: IXL Y.5 Leach - Today, students learned to evaluate algebraic expressions. Shaw: Today students completed Touchstones 2c-Order of Operations and a quiz on exponents and order of operations-both were satisfactorily completed. Students furthered their knowledge and mastery in solving expressions with given values of variables(HW-page 11a-MSG). We will continue solving algebraic expressions and formulas with given values for real life situations as in areas, volume and surface areas.(MSG page 11b). Introduction of translating words to math will continue for the rest of the week 'Write expressions that record operations with numbers and with letters standing for numbers. For example, express the calculation “Subtract y from 5” as 5-y.' Students are to continue working on IXL skills which will be assessed on Friday.

Shaw: Today we reviewed exponents and order of operations-worked examples on the smart board and provided students with a Tree Map to summarize same . Introduced Expressions- discussed all the relevant vocabulary terms, provided notes and examples on smart board, and in students MSG pages 8a and 8b.Worked and modeled examples from their MSG. Students are required to complete problems on 9a and 9b for HW. In addition, a reinforcement WS on exponents and order of operations was given for further practice.(this sheet has notes and examples showing the procedural steps. IXL for completion -11/15/2019-IXL Y4,Y5, Y6,Y3 and Y1 We will have a shot assessment on exponents and order of operations tomorrow, and we will continue with evaluating expressions for given values of a variable. Ledesma - Today, students continued to practice solving problems using the order of operations. We worked on a color-by-number activity with order of operations.
