Today, students worked more on finding the area of composite shapes. Tip: It can be helpful to color-code your work! :) Homework: Bothers: Study for quiz on composite area Katz: Composite Area Practice Sheet (Back of last night's homework) Leach: Area Practice WS; Quiz corrections; Continue working on IXL Ledesma: MSG p. 13 (composite area); Composite Area Creature was due TODAY! Quiz on Monday and IXL due Monday

We hope you all enjoyed our "snow" day! ;) Today, we worked on finding the area of composite figures. A composite figure is one that is composed of, or made up of, more than one shape. To find the area of a composite figure, you decompose, or split it up, into smaller polygons. Find the area of each polygon, and then add all of their areas together. Homework: Bothers: MSG p. 13b (MSG is posted on the right side of the blog) Katz: Composite Shape Practice Problem SIDE 1 ONLY (marked pg. 104) Leach: Area Practice WS; Quiz corrections due Fri.; IXL (see MSG calendar) Ledesma: Finish Area/Composite Creature
Today, we continued to work on area of polygons, with a focus on triangles and trapezoids. Mrs. Bothers's classes began finding area of composite shapes.
Homework:
Bothers: Homework Stars' quiz is due Monday; IXL due Monday (check MSG) Katz: Homework Stars' quiz is due Monday Leach: Work on IXL on blue sheet (6th grade FF5 & 5th grade EE5 & EE6) Ledesma: Homework Stars' quiz is due Monday; IXL purple sheet due Mon. Shaw:Work on your IXL-review standards(6th grade FF5 & 5th grade EE5 & EE6) Today we continued exploring area, with a focus on triangles and trapezoids. There will be a quiz tomorrow on area! Homework: Bothers: Area Practice sheet; IXL due Mon. 2/4 Katz: Finding Area Practice Sheet (On the back of the notes) Leach: Area Worksheet & Post Test Corrections due tomorrow; Continue working IXL standards from blue sheet of MSG calendar Ledesma: Area WS (Both sides- Show ALL Steps).. Work on Purple IXL Shaw: Area WS,IXL Practice Exercises(on MSG),Review Areas of Triangles ,Parallelogram, Rectangles and Squares-(Particularly the steps-Formula, Substitution and Solve)-Quiz on Friday.
Today, students continued to find area of rectangles, parallelograms, triangles, and trapezoids. Remember to show ALL of these steps when solving these problems:
Homework: Bothers: Area Practice WS (skip trapezoids); IXL Katz: MSG p. 7b Leach: Area Practice WS; Test corrections due Fri.; blue IXL sheet is ongoing Ledesma: Area practice Worksheet (Identify the shape, write the formula, substitute, and solve with units). Purple IXL due: Friday!
Bothers/Leach/Ledesma - Students learned to find the area of rectangles, triangles, and parallelograms. They took notes and explored the relationships between parallelograms and triangles (a triangle is 1/2 a parallelogram) and rectangles and parallelograms. They also made a Flow Map of how to find area. Mrs. Katz's students used the posters made by their classmates to complete their geometry glossary in their MSGs. We will begin area tomorrow. Homework: Bothers: MSG p. 11a; IXL due Monday Katz: IXL (6th grade skill) F.5 Leach: Area of Triangles WS; Test corrections due Friday; IXL Ledesma: MSG p. 7b, 8b, 10a, 10b (Write the formula, substitute, then solve and include units); IXL purple sheet due Friday!
Homework: Bothers: 3rd Pd - Finish Vocab Picture; 4th Pd - Finish Vocab on MSG p. 3 & 4 Katz: Finish Vocab poster Leach: Test corrections due next Friday; work on IXL standards (blue sheet) Ledesma: Finish Vocab on MSG p. 3 & 4 (definition and/or picture); start new IXL on purple sheet Use http://www.amathsdictionaryforkids.com/dictionary.html for Vocab.
Students took/finished the Unit 4 End of Unit test today. Bothers's and Ledesma's students also began a vocabulary assignment. Each student was assigned a vocab term from Unit 5. They will include the term, definition, and picture/example on their paper. It should also be neat/colored/attractive, because they will be on display tomorrow for students to complete their unit vocabulary. Homework:
Bothers: 3rd Period: Make sure you have your definition written; 4th Period: Finish your Vocab Picture Katz: Students should complete the IXL skills for homework. I will take a grade for these skills tomorrow: AA.1, AA.2, AA.3, FF.1, FF.2 Leach: Squares/Rectangles Area WS; Quiz corrections due tomorrow; Continue working on blue IXL sheet Ledesma: Finish Vocab activity; Green IXL sheet due tomorrow Bothers & Ledesma - Students took their Unit 4 Post-Test today. Stay tuned for shout-outs to those who earned an A! Katz - Students reviewed all of the content from Unit 4. Our Unit 4 End of Unit Test is tomorrow. Leach: Students finished their test, and then they went to the computer lab to practice skills on IXL and Mini-Touchstones. Homework: Bothers: No HW Katz: Study for test tomorrow! Leach: Work on blue IXL sheet; Quiz corrections due Friday Ledesma: Green IXL sheet due Friday; Bring yellow plastic folders tomorrow Shaw:Use study guide to prepare for Unit 4 Test (the WS given will also be helpful-areas to review specifically one steps equations, inequalities, direct variation. |
