Shaw: Today, we summarized unit 5-areas, composite areas, surface areas, key vocabulary words and introduced the final lesson of the unit-Volume-MSG 19a and 19b, 20a and 20b-notes and examples provided. We also looked at two videos on finding the volume of rectangular prisms-sharing previous knowledge-Using the formula, substitute and solve using the correct unit-Cubic Units.
We will continue practicing on finding volume- applying the procedural steps. Students have an IXL homework assignment- striving for 80%and above-FF14. Reminder, we are progressing towards the end of unit 5 and the end of the third nine weeks - The Mini Post Test and Unit Test are planned to be completed-on Thursday and Friday.(All outstanding assignments are due on Friday).
Bothers - Today, students practiced finding the surface area of rectangular prisms, cubes, and pyramids. HW: Finish the Surface Area Classwork (all of the front and #s 1 and 2 on the back); IXL EE.1, EE.2, EE.3, and FF.16 are due tomorrow! Shaw:Today we marked classwork assignment - finding the areas of 3D figures and reviewed same for Quiz. Students will complete this tomorrow.(Students need to spend time on applying/using formulas(using the procedural steps) to find surface areas-responses checked show difficulty in work completion - we will address tomorrow!).
Reminder-all HW,CW, IXL assignments need to be completed for tomorrow-these will be graded based on completion and performance. Bothers - Today, we worked on finding the surface area of given polyhedra.

Shaw:Today we continued practicing finding the areas of three dimensional figures using the formulas and following the procedural steps. Questions from the MSG were modeled and all students were expected to copy same -MSG pages 17b,18a and 18b.(Three dimensional figures covered-rectangular prism, triangular prism, cube, square pyramid and triangular pyramid).
An independent practice work sheet with 10 questions was given to all students for completion with all work shown. Students are to continue working on IXL assigned skills-striving for 100% on these. NB-A test on past UNITS will be conducted on Friday-grades will be recorded-specifically on Number and Operations-Fractions, Division,Exponents, GCF and LCM,Ratio and Proportional Reasoning-Ratios and Rates, Expressions-Definitions, Direct Variation,Areas. On Wednesday ,we will continue to work on Surface area-a worksheet will be given as homework. Bothers - Today, students were introduced to 3D figures. We're focusing on polyhedra, or 3D shapes made entirely of polygons. We also introduced surface area. We watched the BrainPop and took notes in the MSG. HW: 1st Pd should make corrections to their Composite Area Quizzes; Both 1st and 3rd Periods should complete IXL EE.1, EE.2, EE.3, and FF.16 by Friday. Katz - I hope you all had a great weekend! This week we will be focused on computing the surface area of 3D figures.
Leach - Students worked on area standards on IXL in the computer lab. HW: Composite Area Quiz Corrections are due by FRIDAY; Keep working on IXL assignment sheet from computer lab Ledesma - Students worked on area standards on IXL in the computer lab. HW: New IXL assignment (white) due Monday; Pink IXL due TODAY!!
Shaw:Introduced vocabulary concepts associated with lesson on surface area-3-D figures, faces, edges, vertex(ices),nets, congruent faces, and formulas. Students were provided with notes in their MSG-15a,15b,16a,and 17b-we examined rectangular , and triangular prisms and cubes using concrete shapes.-examples worked on the smart board and in MSG.
Students have three nets on the above figures and are to find the surface areas- following the procedures outlined-find the sum of the areas(using the correct formula and substituting the correct side lengths of the individual faces-the sum will be the surface area of the figure(answer to be written in square units) IXL skills were assigned last Friday on this lesson-these will add to stock knowledge and build proficiency skills- to be completed on 02/14/20. |
